1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 At the recent “Annual Meeting of Skye and Lochalsh Area Community Councils” Scottish TranServ agreed to discuss with the Highland Council having a “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge 1.2 George Speed contacted the Secretary and said that permanently rectifying the potholes on the bend on South Obbe and the pavements down by the pier would not now take place until spring 2007. The Secretary wrote to Mark Crow again to remind him, and he has still not replied. 1.3 John MacDonald the new Lighting Technician is investigating the possibility of installing lighting around the outside perimeter of the gravel area, the new lights for the Castle Moil have arrived and will be fitted as soon as possible. 1.4 It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, ongoing. 1.5 We have received a quotation from Calum MacAskill of £5475 + VAT to put a sloping roof on the flat area of the roof of the Old School. The Highland Council have given us £1000 and we agreed to look for other sources of funding (Awards for All was suggested). 1.6 Mr Sikorski said he hoped to get a working party together to remove vegetation from the old Kyleakin to Broadford road, to enable it to be used for recreational purposes. 1.7 The Secretary has written to John Macdonald requesting funding for ‘village officer’ work for 2007 and also funding for Kyleakin Football Club to cut the grass at the top of the village. 1.8 We wrote to the Highland Council to inform them that the foreshore opposite No. 8 Kyleside is sinking. Mark Crow replied saying an inspection had been carried out and the rock armour appears to be intact but there may be some ‘wash-out’ of fines from the rock armour which could be causing the sinkage of the grassed area. They will monitor the situation. Bill Fulton said that the Highland Council have just received £4,000,000 from the Scottish Executive for coastal protection. 1.9 The bill for putting the lights on the Xmas tree increased from £58.75 in 2005 to £117.50 in 2006. The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council asking the reason but has not yet received a reply. 2. Correspondence
| 2.1 | We have received a letter from Kyleakin SWRI thanking us for the donation we made towards the Senior Citizen Dinner. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 Concern was expressed about all the cars that are parked outside the King’s Arms, often right down to the junction with King Street, are a potential road hazard and the situation is not helped by the large bush on the corner. The Secretary was asked to write to the King’s Arms and ask them to ensure their customers park their cars in the car park and not on the road and also to trim back the bush in front of the hotel. 3.2 We have received a complaint from the Bright Water Centre that tourists are asking to use their toilet as the public toilets at the Castle Moil do not open until 12:00. The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and ask them to implement the summer opening times.
As this was the last meeting that Councillor Bill Fulton would attend in his official capacity, the meeting took the opportunity to thank him for everything he had done for the village during the 14 years he had been our local Councillor. Councillor Fulton replied saying that of all the Community Councils in his ward Kyleakin was the one he most enjoyed working with and estimated that the Highland Council had spent nearly £2,000,000 on the village during the period he had been a Councillor.
Next Meeting: Monday 14th May 2007 at 19.30.
