1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 Three months ago Bob Cameron wrote saying that he has spoken with TranServ and they had informed him that they have a sign replacement scheme in place and the “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge was part of that. The Secretary was asked to write to both the Highland Council and TranServ and ask for a progress report.
1.2 The pavement on the water side of the road is being replaced as part of the ongoing sewer replacement. George Speed has already told Mr Sikorski that the Highland Council will re-tar the road when the work is complete. Mr Sikorski agreed to write to the Highland Council asking for upgrading of this pavement to be included in the works at the pier.
1.3 Mr Glenwright is still collating information for the board. We agreed to put a list of the B and B’s in the village on the board and would ask residents to give their details to Ms Clouston if they wished to be included. We would not be accepting large notices for display.
1.4 Kirstie Phipps said she would be delighted if we sent a working party onto Shorefields to tidy up the area around the telescope. Working party to be arranged when weather improves.
1.5 We have received several verbal complaints about Broadford Medical Practice introducing a trial period where there is no surgery at Kyleakin but house visits are available to elderly patients who can’t travel. The advert in the WHFP did not mention that house visits were available if requested and when residents phoned the surgery it was implied that the Community Council were agreeable to this change when in fact they had informed Dr Turville that they were opposed to it. The Secretary was asked to contact the Practice Manager to ensure that we are consulted before any final decision is made.
1.6 It was suggested that we investigate the possibility of purchasing hanging flower baskets to brighten up the village. Mr Glenwright put up a poster to gage public response and invite help with watering and looking after them. The area down the pier is covered and we have two volunteers on Kyleside. However one area of concern is being able to reach the baskets when they are hanging from the lamp posts. We agreed to give futher consideration to the matter.
2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We received a letter from a villager asking if we could request the Highland Council to adopt King Street which they had tarred in 1991, it now has street lights and a 20 mph speed restriction sign. After a discussion we agreed to ask the Highland Council to adopt all the roads that have a 20 mph speed restriction sign. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 Community Council elections are to be held in May. We have appointed Billy Reid as our Returning Officer who will be responsible for the issue, collection and checking of nomination forms. There will be an advert in the WHFP on April 18th.
3.2 Drambuie Pursuit has advised us that they will be returning to the village on April 22 to erect a tent and portaloo on the grass alongside the waterfront ready for the races on April 25-27.
3.3 The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and ask them to replace the interpretation board at the Castle Moil, as the current one is dirty and difficult to read.
3.4 We have received reports that cars have started using the village as a racetrack again especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The Secretary was asked to write to the police.
3.5 There are no keep left signs on the Bridge as you approach the roundabout which could be disconcerting for foreign tourists. The Secretary was asked to write to TranServ and also mention the “Welcome to Skye” sign (see 1.1 above).
Next Meeting: Monday 12th May 2008 at 19.30 (dependant on Community Council Elections)
