1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 The Secretary was asked to write to Harold Yates regarding a “Welcome to Skye” sign incorporated in the roundabout at the top of the village. He replied saying he had contacted both the Scottish Executive and BEAR 10 months ago on the subject but to no avail. He would contact TranServ to see if they are more amenable, ongoing.
1.2 George Speed contacted the Secretary and said that permanently rectifying the potholes on the bend on South Obbe and the pavements down by the pier would not now take place until next Spring, ongoing.
1.3 John MacDonald the new Lighting Technician is investigating the possibility of installing lighting around the outside perimeter of the gravel area, the new lights for the Castle Moil have arrived and will be fitted as soon as possible.
1.4 It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, ongoing.
1.5 We have heard no more on the Fish Farm debris on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste; however we have received a copy of a letter from Sir Iain Noble to Murdo MacRae saying in view on the controversy he was going to charge him £7.50 per day until it had been removed.
1.6 The Secretary wrote to the Royal Navy at asking if they could put pressure on the owners of the “Vanguard” to move the vessel from Kyleakin pier. The replied that there was nothing they could do and they also said that according to their records the vessel does not appear to have done any work for them in the past.
1.7 The Secretary wrote to Calum MacAskill and Roddy Morrison asking for a quotation to put a sloping roof on the flat area of the roof of the Old School. So far we have only received a reply from Calum MacAskill who quoted £5475 + VAT. We have written to John MacDonald to see if a grant is available from the Highland Council.
1.8 Donald Kennedy, the Highland Council Access Officer, wrote regarding removing vegetation from the old Kyleakin to Broadford road to enable it to be used for recreational purposes. He had met with Robin Graham, the land owner, who was agreeable and suggested we made contact to agree a suitable date for carrying out the work. Mr Sikorski agreed to liaise with Mr Graham and it was hoped to carry out the work in February/March 2007. 2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We have received letter from both the Scottish Executive and the Highland Council seeking our opinion of the proposed first Coastal and Marine National Park of which two possible locations are either “Lochaber and South Skye” or “Wester Ross and North Skye”. After a discussion it was agreed that we would need a lot more information before coming to a decision it was also felt that a discussion with the owners of local fishing boats, to see what impact if any it would have on their activities, would be useful. |
