MacLean and Mike Taylor.

Minutes of meeting on 6th December 2004:
Proposed by Mr Sikorski, seconded by Mr
Glenwright, and carried.
1. Matters Arising From Previous Meetings
Tony Usher has replied to the letter written by the
Secretary to John Macdonald expressing our concern about
marine facilities at Kyleakin. He has arranged for the
rusty vessel moored in front of the shop to be removed
and hopefully there will be a supply of water available
to visiting boats by the start of the 2005 season. He
considered our criticisms of John MacRae unfair. The
secretary was asked to invite John MacRae to the next
meeting for a discussion on our concerns.
We have received new drawings from Scottish Water
showing an alternative route for the pumping main of the
new sewage treatment plant. At the request of the
Highland Council the pipe will now located within the
land between the road and the foreshore rather than
within the foreshore. Mr Glenwright had spoken to them
about potential delays that may mean that the section of
road down by the pier would be dug up during the tourist
season.
The solicitor acting on our behalf on the sale of the
Old Calmac Building has written saying he was not
satisfied with the letter he received from John Clarke,
the meeting agreed to ask him to continue.
Marshall Gillespie has fitted two cages to the War
Memorial.
Bill Fulton said he had met with the Scottish
Executive to discuss his plans for the roundabout at the
top of the village and was hopeful that they would be
approved, if so he hoped to include a new village sign.
Mr Glenwright has reminded the manager of the King's
Arms Hotel that the large yellow bush on the corner is
obstructing the vision of anyone turning from King
Street onto the main road.
The Secretary was asked to write and invite Sergeant
Galloway to our next meeting to explain the potential
benefits of forming a "Neighbourhood Watch Scheme" in
Kyleakin.
The Secretary has written to the Youth Group (Voice
of Kyleakin) asking for an assurance that the proposed
Skate board area would be kept tidy and that all Health
& Safety aspects would be observed a copy of their
constitution showing what happens to the assets if the
organisation is dissolved was also requested. We have
not received a reply
2. Correspondence
We have received a letter from Mr Tim Stott of the
Highland Council offering to attend a Community Council
meeting to discuss the "New Local Plan", it was agreed
that this would be useful and it was suggested that the
April or May meeting would be an appropriate time.
3. A.O.C.B.
Following the storm on 11th January we wrote to John
Macdonald informing him that the footpath running along
the shore behind the new car park had been undermined in
several areas and the coast has eroded up to 0.5 metre
in other areas, the Castle Moil Restaurant has also
written on the same subject. This letter has been
acknowledged. Bill Fulton said that the Highland Council
were collating the cost of all the damage caused by the
storm to present to the Scottish Executive and he
thought this exercise would take up to two months. The
secretary was asked to invite Councillor John Laing to
the next meeting for a discussion on erosion protection.
We agreed to donate 100 to the SWRI to help offset
the cost of the Senior Citizen's Xmas Dinner.
The Isle of Skye Motor Cycle Club have booked the
Community Hall in September for a charity event and have
requested the use of the land next to the Hall to erect
up to 25 tents with toilet facilities. No decision was
reached on this.
It was suggested that we approach the Highland
Council to see if we can obtain three concrete flower
tubs.
Although we have not been asked to comment, we
discussed the plan to erect two flats on the site of the
Old Calmac Building, we objected to the plan as it is
out with the current Local Plan for the area which
states that it shall only be used for commercial
development.
The roof of the fire station behind the Old School
blew of during the recent storm. We agreed to replace
the roof so that the building can be used by the
Community Council.
