1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 At the recent “Annual Meeting of Skye and Lochalsh Area Community Councils” Scottish TranServ agreed to discuss with the Highland Council having a “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge.
1.2 George Speed contacted the Secretary and said that permanently rectifying the potholes on the bend on South Obbe and the pavements down by the pier would not now take place until next Spring, ongoing. The Secretary was asked to write to Mark Crow to remind him and also mention that the yellow lining at the top of the pier needs finishing.
1.3 John MacDonald the new Lighting Technician is investigating the possibility of installing lighting around the outside perimeter of the gravel area, the new lights for the Castle Moil have arrived and will be fitted as soon as possible.
1.4 It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, ongoing.
1.5 Mr Sikorski said he would check to see if the Fish Farm debris on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste is still there.
1.6 The Secretary wrote to Calum MacAskill and Roddy Morrison asking for a quotation to put a sloping roof on the flat area of the roof of the Old School. So far we have only received a reply from Calum MacAskill who quoted £5475 + VAT. We wrote to John MacDonald to see if a grant is available from the Highland Council, he replied saying that he hoped that the Highland Council would be able to make a modest grant towards the end of the financial year and had recently informed the Secretary this would be in the order of £1000. The meeting felt that as the Community Council had already spent a considerable sum replacing the windows it should not be spending another £5400 of its money on repairs to a building it did not own. It was agreed to look for alternative quotations and to also see if any other sources of funding were available.
1.7 Mr Sikorski said he hoped to get a working party together to remove vegetation from the old Kyleakin to Broadford road, to enable it to be used for recreational purposes, within the next four weeks. 2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We have received letter from a villager, with photographs attached, complaining about the large number of Rapson buses that are being permanently parked in the car park. A copy of this letter had been sent to John Macdonald and we wrote a letter of support. Harold Yates replied on 17 January saying that he has been informed by Rapsons that the buses are there on a temporary basis awaiting their disposal. This was done without his knowledge or consent but he understood that the vehicles had now been removed. The meeting disagreed with this and asked the Secretary to reply to Mr Yates and say that only last week there were six buses parked there and that oil leaks from the buses were spoiling the new tarmac. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 We agreed to donate £200 to the SWRI to help offset the cost of the Senior Citizen’s Xmas Dinner.
3.2 We have received a planning application for the erection of an extension at Kyleakin Community Hall. After a discussion the meeting agreed to give its support to the application. N.B. Apart from answering questions Messrs Robertson and Taylor took no part in this decision as they are both on the Kyleakin Hall Committee. 3.3 The Secretary had attended the recent “Annual Meeting of Skye and Lochalsh Area Community Councils” where a presentation was given on the proposed arrangements for the delivery of service by the Highland Council after the May elections. Eilean A’Cheo (Ward 11) would have four Councillors elected by proportional representation and there would be a Local Community Forum set up which would consist of the four Councillors, representatives from various public bodies (Police, NHS, Fire Brigade etc.) and representatives from Community Councils.
Next Meeting: Monday 12th March 2007 at 19.30.
