Matters Arising From Meeting of 30th April 2001

  1. BT Phone Box
  2. We have received a letter from Tom Crickmar of BT stating that due to the small usage it is no longer an economical proposition to relocate the kiosk in fact they would like to remove it. To enable the committee to gauge the feeling of people in the area, prior to replying to BT, a notice asking for comments is to be placed on the Committee notice board and inside the kiosk.

  3. Car Park Development
  4. Ongoing.

  5. Erosion of the Foreshore
  6. Ian Sikorski and Russell Thomson took measurements and photographs on the 5th April for future reference and have placed a copy with the Community Council. The area will be re-measured next April.

  7. Castle Moil
  8. The Heritage Committee of the Highland Council have removed the beam from the Castle in an attempt to prevent people climbing up.

  9. Clean Up Of Harbour Area
  10. The clean up of the harbour area will take place at the next low tide

  11. Kinloch Hills - Wilderness Forest
  12. Ian Sikorski attended a meeting on 25th June with regard to the Community Forest Project, the project is headed by the Scottish Forest Alliance and already has £700,000 towards an estimated cost of £1.4m.

The meeting requested that the Community Councils in the area nominate a representative to join the working party. It was agreed that Mike Taylor would represent Kyleakin Community Council with Nuala McKay as the reserve.

A.O.C.B.

3.1

It was mentioned that the grass verges around the village were getting rather overgrown. Areas that were particularly bad were Achmore Road, the road into the village, the area from the Toll Booth Plaza to the Kyleakin roundabout and along the A87. It was agreed that we would write to John Macdonald (Highland Council) with regard to the area around the village and to John Farquhar Munro MSP (to apply pressure on BEAR Scotland) about the A87, stressing the effect on both safety and amenity.

Next Meeting: Monday 3rd September 2001 at 19.00.
