1. Matters Arising From Meeting of 12th June 2006

1.1

We have no further information on having a “Welcome to Skye” sign incorporated in the roundabout at the top of the village. Bill Fulton has spoken with Geoff Robson who will contact the Scottish Executive.

1.2

The coastal protection scheme has been completed however concern was expressed that small boulders had already moved in some areas. Harold Yates has written saying he has raised a works order to have the embankment, above the rock armour protection, top soiled and grass seeded. The Secretary has invited Mr Yates down to meet up with representatives of the CC, he has agreed and we are awaiting a date.

1.3

The Secretary has contacted the new Lighting engineer, Dougie Sanderson, and ask for lighting to be installed around the outside perimeter of the gravel area. Also some of the lights on the Castle Moil need replacing.

1.4

Youths are still using Old Kyle Farm Road as a race track and Mr Glenwright said they had also been racing from the pier up through the village, it was noticed that they have also modified the exhaust of the cars to give a throaty roar. The Secretary wrote inviting PC Harper to meet up with representatives of the CC to discuss the problem, he has not replied.

1.5

John Macdonald arranged for a notice in the WHFP to inform owners, who had not paid their fees for storing boats in the Quay area, that if they had not moved their boats before the June 23rd they would be removed. He will also arrange to have notices erected in the area stating fees for storing boats. Several boats have been moved and the Secretary is meeting with Jim Ronald (Highland Council) on Thursday to agree what needs disposing.

1.6

The Secretary had written to Harold Yates informing him that Tullochs had not replaced the yellow lines which were disturbed by their pipe work down by the pier and that we have been informed by Scottish Water that the council are looking at changing the lines. George Speed has confirmed that there is no intention of altering the position of the lines and that Scottish Water is responsible for reinstating them.

1.7 The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council about rectifying the pavements down the pier. George Speed and the Secretary walked the area and he agreed to raise a Works Order to have them levelled.
1.8

It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, on-going.

1.9

The Secretary was contacted the Highland Council and reported that there are several large pot holes on the bend in the road over South Obbe. Harold Yates replied saying that he has raised a works order to have the pot holes cut out and patched with hot material as they are continually breaking out being on a very tight corner.

1.10

A group of teenagers are meeting behind the Free Church smoking and drinking and damaging the dry stone wall. The Secretary wrote to PC Harper with a copy to Caroline Langlands neither have replied.

1.11

The Secretary wrote to TranServ and informed them that water accumulates in the dip in the path at the start of the Skye Bridge, they replied saying that the matter is currently being investigated by their engineers.

1.12

The Secretary wrote to Tony Usher asking how much longer the “Vanguard” was going to be moored at the Fishery Pier. He replied saying that he was unable to give on a departure date for the vessel, and that it is not possible to move her to another location at this time.

1.13

The Secretary spoke to Miss Lee (01763 702129), who is secretary to the department responsible for the marine environment at the Highland Council, to report that a large amount of Fish Farm debris had been washed up on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste.

1.14

The Secretary wrote to George Speed and asked for the trees near the Castle Moil to be removed as they are spoiling the view of the Castle from the Harbour, and their roots may be damaging the foundations of the Castle.

1.15

The Secretary wrote to write to Rapsons and ask them to reconsider their decision to use the Bus Turning Circle opposite the Youth Hostel rather than going down the pier.

2. Correspondence

    2.1

The Chairman has received a letter from Angus MacLennan saying that the Youth Club were looking for a short environmental project to carry out in the summer holiday. We suggested a tidy up of the foreshore or the head of the head of the Obbe.

3. A.O.C.B.

3.1

The Secretary was asked to write to the manager of the King’s Arms Hotel and ask him to have the large bush by the main door pruned as it is obstructing the vision of anyone turning from King Street onto the main road.

3.2

The Secretary has contacted Scottish Water and reported that there is raw sewage coming up through the man holes along Kyle House Brae.
