We have been without a Chairman since Nuala McKay resigned in October 2005.
After a discussion Mr Robertson agreed to become Chairman of the Community Council, he was proposed by Mrs Mellor, and seconded by Mr Glenwright.
1. Matters Arising From Meeting of 8th May 2006
1.1 The roundabout at the top of the village has been planted with ornamental heathers and most of the Councillors were pleased with it although concern was expressed that you could not see over it when approaching from Kyle Farm Road. We were disappointed that a “Welcome to Skye” sign was not incorporated. Bill Fulton has spoken with Geoff Robson who will contact the Scottish Executive.
1.2 The coastal protection scheme has been completed however concern was expressed that small boulders had already moved in some areas. Harold Yates has written saying he has raised a works order to have the embankment, above the rock armour protection, top soiled and grass seeded. The Secretary was asked to invite Mr Yates down to meet up with representatives of the CC.
1.3 The Secretary was asked to contact the new Lighting engineer, Dougie Sanderson, and ask for lighting to be installed around the outside perimeter of the gravel area. Also some of the lights on the Castle Moil need replacing.
1.4 Youths are still using Old Kyle Farm Road as a race track and Mr Glenwright said they had also been racing from the pier up through the village, it was noticed that they have also modified the exhaust of the cars to give a throaty roar. The Secretary was asked to invite Mr Harper to meet up with representatives of the CC.
1.5 John Macdonald met with Messrs Sikorski & Taylor and we discussed the problem of the rubbish dumped in the Quay area and also the problems we had in collecting fees for storing boats in the area. He agreed to put a notice in the WHFP informing owners, who had not paid their fees, that if they had not moved their boats before the June 23rd they would be removed. He would also arrange to have notices erected in the area stating fees for storing boats.
1.6 The Secretary had written to Harold Yates informing him that Tullochs had not replaced the yellow lines which were disturbed by their pipe work down by the pier and Mr Sikorski has been informed by Scottish Water that it seems the council are looking at changing the lines. With this in mind SW will put off the reinstatement until HRC have made a decision on where they want the lines to be. The Secretary was asked to the Council and ascertain what is happening.
1.7 The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council about rectifying the pavements down the pier. George Speed and the Secretary walked the area and he agreed to raise a Works Order to have them levelled.
1.8 David Mackay has sent us a photograph of the type of bench he manufactures for the Highland Council. We agreed to purchase the bench at a cost, including the fitting of a brass plaque, of £450.
1.9 It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this.
1.10 It was reported that there are several large pot holes on the bend in the road over South Obbe, the Secretary was asked to contact the Highland Council. Post Meeting Note: We have received a reply from Harold Yates saying that he has raised a works order to have the pot holes cut out and patched with hot material as they are continually breaking out being on a very tight corner.
2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We have received a letter from the League of Friends of Broadford Hospital asking for a donation towards the cost of purchasing equipment to test patients with heart problems and hearing difficulties. We agreed to donate £200. |

3.3 A group of teenagers are meeting behind the Free Church smoking and drinking and damaging the dry stone wall. The Secretary was asked to contact the Police and also drop a line to Caroline Langlands.
3.4 Water accumulates in the dip in the path at the start of the Skye Bridge, the Secretary has written to George Speed asking him to have the drainage sorted out.
3.5 The Secretary was asked to write to Tony Usher (copy to Councillor John Laing) and ask how much longer the large rusting boat was going to be moored at the Fishery Pier.
3.6 It was reported that a large amount of Fish Farm debris has been washed up on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste. The Secretary was asked to contact the Council.
3.7 The trees near the Castle Moil need removing as they are spoiling the view of the Castle from the Harbour. The Secretary to contact the Council.
3.8 The Highland Council have advised us that they have been informed by Rapsons that they will continue to use the Bus Turning Circle opposite the Youth Hostel rather than going down the pier. The Secretary was asked to write to Rapsons and ask them to reconsider.
