1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting

1.1

At the recent “Annual Meeting of Skye and Lochalsh Area Community Councils” Scottish TranServ agreed to discuss with the Highland Council having a “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge.

1.2

Mark Crow informed the Secretary that the pavement in front of the houses down by the pier would be repaired in June however the one alongside the railings would only be tidied up.

1.3

The new lights for the Castle Moil have been fitted but several (5?) are not working.

1.4

The Highland Council will meet the cost of supplying and delivering a double-sided Information Board (cost around £2500), and the Community Council will meet the cost of installing it. The Highland Council will also meet the cost of an information panel to go in the Information Board.

1.5

We have received a quotation from Calum MacAskill of £5475 + VAT to put a sloping roof on the flat area of the roof of the Old School. The Highland Council have given us £1000 and we agreed to look for other sources of funding. We have applied to ‘Awards for All’.

1.6

Mr Sikorski has being speaking to Donald Kennedy regarding using the old Kyleakin to Broadford road for recreational purposes and he suggested we made contact with the Broadford Environmental Group to work together on the project.

1.7

Mark Crow said that the funding for ‘Village Officer’ work for 2007 and also funding for Kyleakin Football Club to cut the grass at the top of the village would not be decided until a new Executive Officer for Ward 11 had been appointed.

1.8

Concern was expressed about buses being permanently parked down the pier. The Secretary was asked to contact the Highland Council and have them removed.

1.9

The Secretary was asked to contact BT and ask them to properly bury the exposed cables on the foreshore, where they come across from the mainland, as they are liable to be damaged.

2. Correspondence

    2.1

We have received a letter from the Eilean Bàn Trust informing us that they are in the middle of a feasibility study on the Trust and its associated Visitor Centre should develop in the future. They are considering two options for the location of the Centre, the Present Site and the Toll Booth Office and are seeking the views of the CC on this matter. The Council’s opinion is that they would be very disappointed if the Centre was to move out of the village and we also felt that extended opening hours (i.e. weekends and a 0900 start in the mornings) and increased signage would also help to increase the amount of visitors to the Centre.

    2.2

We have received a letter concerning the large amount of broken glass regularly found outside the public houses in Kyleakin, the Secretary was asked to drop a line to all the Hotels asking them to help resolve the problem.

    2.3

We have received a letter about the number of motorbikes, usually with underage riders, using the Obbe. As the Obbe is designated a Wildlife Conservation Area the Secretary was asked to write to SNH asking for their assistance in this matter.

3. A.O.C.B.

3.1

The Secretary informed the meeting that the first meeting of the new Ward Forum would take place on 18th June at which all Community Councils will be represented. The Forum will not be a decision making body, however it will be able to scrutinise local Council service delivery and act as a sounding board for Elected Members within the Ward.

3.2

The Secretary was asked to write to TranServ about the state of the roundabout at the top of the village.

3.3

Although we are still waiting for this years allocation of funding from the Highland Council we agreed to make a start on this seasons ‘Village Officer’ work, the Secretary was asked to put a notice up advertising the position.

3.4

The grass cutters are leaving a strip of long grass up against the shoreline all along Kyleside, the Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and ask them to have it strimmed.

3.5

The Secretary was asked to write to the Harbourmaster and ask him to try and ensure that when creels are cleaned on the pier the work is carried out below the high tide mark as the residue is causing a nasty smell.

Next Meeting: Monday 9th July 2007 at 19.30.
