1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 Bob Cameron has written saying that he has spoken with TranServ and they have informed him that they have a sign replacement scheme in place and the “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge is part of that. The final comparison of tenders is being carried out and it is expected the scheme will start within eight to ten weeks.
1.2 The pavement on the water side of the road is being replaced as part of the ongoing sewer replacement. George Speed has already told Mr Sikorski that the Highland Council will re-tar the road when the work is complete. Mr Sikorski agreed to write to the Highland Council asking for upgrading of this pavement to be included in the works at the pier
1.3 Mr Glenwright is still collating information for the board. The Highland Council have agreed to include fixing of seats (including seat in memory of girl who died in the fire) onto concrete plinths as part of this project.
1.4 Mr Sikorski has had further discussions with Scottish Water about the noise generated by vehicles when they drive over the manhole covers on the pier behind the Bright Water Centre, due to the tarmac surrounding the covers having sunk. He will include this in his letter to the Highland Council (re 1.2 above).
1.5 Kirstie Phipps said she would be delighted if we sent a working party onto Shorefields to tidy up the area around the telescope. Working party to be arranged when weather improves.
1.6 We have received several complaints about stray dogs roaming the village and also the amount of dog fouling appears to have increased. The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council asking for their help in resolving the problem. We have received replies from George Speed and Mark Crowe saying the Council have recently taken on another Enforcement Officer who is based at Dingwall. However it is hoped that they will be able to travel to deal with dog related problems. They will also arrange for more leaflets to be distributed around the area.
2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We received a letter from our solicitors regarding the ‘Deed of Servitude’ in favour of Kyleakin Feus asking if we were happy to agree with a requested amendment to include a right of pedestrian access. The amendment was agreed to. However the pink area showing the access was incorrect. At the Hall entrance the pink area should be narrower i.e. limited to the width of the roadway and not encroaching on the parking bays. The Chairman will reply to the solicitors to confirm the agreement and advise them of the access road situation. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 Dr Turville advised the meeting that that the Broadford Medical Practice is proposing changes to the Kyleakin Surgery. They are proposing a trial period where there would be no surgery at Kyleakin but house visits would be made available to elderly patients who couldn’t travel. The surgery currently operates on a fortnightly basis, all appointment slots are not being taken up and those that are tend to be mainly for blood samples and blood pressure test. Many Kyleakin patients seem to prefer travel to Broadford. There are other issues with the building such as poor heating and soundproofing, lack of up-to-date IT facilities as well as lone working issues regarding drugs etc. Dr Turville took away some suggestions and will get back in touch when a decision is made.
3.2 It was suggested that we investigate the possibility of purchasing hanging flower baskets to brighten up the village. Mr Glenwright agreed to put a poster to gage public response and invite help with watering and looking after them.
3.3 It was reported that cracks are appearing in some walls in front of properties on the pier road. This has been attributed to heavy shellfish lorries going down to the pier to fill up with salt water. With the potential that this practice could cause damage to the new work being done it was agreed that Mr Sikorski will include this in his letter to the Highland Council (re 1.2 above).
Next Meeting: Monday 14th April 2008 at 19.30.
