Minutes of Meeting in Kyleakin day Centre

Monday 13th May 2002

Councillor Bill Fulton, Mairi Stewart Project Manager of
Forest Enterprise.
Ms
Stewart gave a report on the background and progress on
the Kyleakin and Kylerhea Hills Restoration Project, the
Project is of 9 years duration with funding of £630,00
earmarked for it.
Environmental Impact and Assessment would be carried out
, it would be into 2003 before any planting would take
place. Forest Enterprise is looking to the Local
Enterprise Company, Highland Council and Scottish
Natural Heritage for funding in addition to that already
received from BP. Ms Stewart suggested that Advisory
groups/committees could be set up and newsletters
produced to keep the public informed.
Asked
about the old Calmac building Ms Stewart said that
Forest Enterprise could not be a developer but could
possibly share in development proposals. Ms Stewart then
left the meeting after being thanked by the Chairman.

Several areas of the wall along side the
Obbe have been vandalised the Council felt
it would require an experienced stone mason
to repair. Billy Reid to action.

We have received a reply from Forest
Enterprise saying that it will do its utmost
to help with the problem of damage being
caused by deer to some of the gardens on the
South Obbe. |

The council had been advised that an advert
for a youth worker would appear shortly. |

We have been in contact with Mrs Kirsti
Phipps, the owner of Shorefield, with regard
to cutting the grass. She advised us that
once it had been agreed with the Highland
Council which area she owned she would
ensure that her area was mowed regularly.

Members of the Council suggested that the
Obbe would benefit from a clean-up. Ian
Sikorski would contact the school with a
view to getting the children involved. |
