1. Matters Arising From Previous Meetings
| 1.1 |
Following the receipt of the letter from Mr Hanson informing us that the Highland Council own the area between the Kings Arms and the Castle Moil down to the Mean High Water Spring Line. The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council asking if they will fund sea defences. Mr Robertson and Mr Sikorski agreed to carry out this year’s shoreline survey. |
| 1.2 |
John Murray has painted the exterior of the Old School, we are awaiting a quotation from Roddie Morrison for replacing the windows. |
| 1.3 |
The secretary has now written twice to Scottish Water asking them to investigate the foul smell from the drains in Old Kyle Farm Road at the end near the roundabout, but they have not replied. He was asked to write again and also to Alistair Thomson (Environmental Health Department at the Highland Council). |
| 1.4 |
Mr Robertson and Mr Sikorski agreed to investigate and make a recommendation on the best way to provide the lighting of the War Memorial. |
| 1.5 |
Mr Glenwright showed the meeting a copy of the information sheet he proposed to put on the information board next to the pontoon, however he had a problem as his printer did not use a light fast ink. Bill Fulton suggested we contact Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. |
| 1.6 |
We have received a reply from Scottish Water saying that they were now looking at a feasibility study to upgrade the Kyleakin wastewater treatment to meet the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive. A decision on the way forward should be available late June to early July and if agreed work would commence in November 2004. |
| 1.7 |
The meeting noted that the majority of the vehicles in the Lane East of Bellevue had now been moved, |
| 1.8 |
We have received a reply from Broadford Medical Centre, regarding the number of patients they will see at the Tuesday Clinic at Kyleakin, and they have agreed to extend the consulting hours from 9.30 to 11.00 a.m. |
| 1.9 |
The Secretary has written to Mrs Phipps asking her if she could keep the Shorefields area tidy, but has received no reply. |
| 1.10 |
There was a good attendance at the Eilean Bàn Trust AGM on May 6th three more Directors were appointed, and several people volunteered to help. There will be a Director’s meeting on May 24th to elect a Chairman and to decide on the way ahead. |
| 1.11 |
The “Toilet” signs on the old ferry office have now been painted over. |
| 1.12 |
The Secretary has written to the Harbour Master requesting that the mooring lying in front of the old ferry office be put back in position, but has received no reply. |
2. Correspondence
2.1 |
We have received a letter from Andy Hume (Waste Management Officer at the Highland Council) informing us that there is to be a change in the current system of collecting glass. It will now be collected by Baillie Brothers and taken to Alloa to the United Glass factory. |
| 2.2 |
We have received a copy of a planning application for the erection of 11 houses in Old Kyle Farm Road, after examining the plans we agreed that we had no objections to the application. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1
Chris Marsh informed the meeting that there would be a launch of the Kinloch Hills project at Kyleakin Village Hall on the 8th June at 3pm and that all Community Councillors are invited. There will be a formal planting of an oak tree by the Chief Executive of FE and a presentation of the project. Mr Marsh said he would like are area where children of the local primary schools could plant hazel trees which they had grown however there was no area available next to the Hall and further discussions will be required. FE had missed the slot for tree planting this year and the 5 km of paths had not yet commenced. Mr Marsh had also been in contact with Caroline Langlands regarding Youth Involvement in the scheme.
3.2 Concern was expressed at the tendering process used for the sale of the old “Calmac” building at the end of the pier. The meeting felt that when the conditions had been relaxed new tenders should have been asked for. Also as a prime site in the village the Community Council should have been involved in the decision making. The Secretary was asked to write to Alaisdair Mackenzie, Area Solicitor, expressing our concerns.
3.3 The Secretary was asked to write to Bill Ross regarding white lining and landscaping of the car park.
3.4 Bill Fulton informed the Council that there was £2000 available from the Highland Council for Village Officer work this year and we should write to John Macdonald to claim it.
3.5 It was noted that the “Kyleakin” sign pointing down to the village at the roundabout was rather battered. The first suggestion was to ask Bill Ross to have it replaced however Bill Fulton suggested we first contact Dorothy Maxwell as she may be able to provide a more attractive sign.
Next Meeting: Monday 14th June 2004 at 19.30.
