1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting

1.1

At the recent “Annual Meeting of Skye and Lochalsh Area Community Councils” Scottish TranServ agreed to discuss with the Highland Council having a “Welcome to Skye” sign at the end of the Skye Bridge.

1.2

Mark Crow informed the Secretary that the pavement in front of the houses down by the pier would be repaired in June however the one alongside the railings would only be tidied up.

1.3

John MacDonald the new Lighting Technician is investigating the possibility of installing lighting around the outside perimeter of the gravel area, the new lights for the Castle Moil have arrived and will be fitted as soon as possible.

1.4

We had a discussion on the wording on the information board in the car park. Mr Glenwright suggested that we have two sections on it, a permanent one with village history and a temporary one where details of forthcoming events could be displayed, this was agreed.

1.5

We have received a quotation from Calum MacAskill of £5475 + VAT to put a sloping roof on the flat area of the roof of the Old School. The Highland Council have given us £1000 and we agreed to look for other sources of funding. We have applied to ‘Awards for All’.

1.6

Mr Sikorski said he hoped to get a working party together to remove vegetation from the old Kyleakin to Broadford road, to enable it to be used for recreational purposes.

1.7

The Secretary has written to John Macdonald requesting funding for ‘village officer’ work for 2007 and also funding for Kyleakin Football Club to cut the grass at the top of the village.

1.8

The bill for putting the lights on the Xmas tree increased from £58.75 in 2005 to £117.50 in 2006. The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council asking the reason they replied that the amount charged represents a small proportion of the actual cost and, apart from Fort William and Portree, TEC services do not receive any additional funds for this work.

1.9

The problem of cars parked outside the King’s Arms has been resolved.

1.10

The Secretary wrote to the Highland Council asking them to implement the summer opening times for the toilets at the Castle Moil. They replied that the toilets have been open from 9am on weekdays since February but they had forgotten to amend the notice.

2. Correspondence

    2.1

We have received a letter from ‘Boots n Paddles’, who organised the recent Drambuie Pursuit in the village, asking for our comments on the event and informing us that it should be shown on Channel 4 on Sunday 22nd July at 8.00am. They are also proposing to hold a similar event in the village next year on 26th & 27th April. The Secretary was asked to write and say it would have been nice to have had prior knowledge of the event and ask why it was necessary to remove the remains of the old pier.

3. A.O.C.B.

3.1

Concern was expressed about buses being permanently parked down the pier. The Secretary was asked to contact the Highland Council and have them removed.

3.2

The Secretary was asked to contact BT and ask them to properly bury the exposed cables on the foreshore, where they come across from the mainland, as they are liable to be damaged.
