1. Matters Arising From Previous Meeting
1.1 TranServ have written to say the ‘Welcome to Skye’ sign at the west end of the Skye Bridge should be in place within the next two weeks, as will the directional bollards on the Splitter Islands on the approach to the roundabout.
1.2 There is to be a top level meeting between the Highland Council and Scottish Water over the state of the road down to the pier that was excavated for the sewer replacement scheme.
1.3 We have now put a list of the B and B’s in the village on the new notice board. Mr Glenwright showed us a draft copy of the history of the village he proposed to put on the board and also asked us to select which photographs to purchase from the Highland Council.
1.4 Kirstie Phipps said she would be delighted if we sent a working party onto Shorefields to tidy up the area around the telescope. Working party to be arranged when weather improves.
1.5 We are still receiving verbal complaints about Broadford Medical Practice introducing a trial period where there is no surgery at Kyleakin and also three written ones. The Secretary was asked to contact the Practice Manager once again asking them to ensure we are consulted before any final decision is made.
1.6 We agreed to purchase 12 hanging flower baskets to brighten up the village, and also any brackets that were needed to suspend them from the lamp posts.
1.7 The Secretary wrote to Dualchas asking them to replace the interpretation board at the Castle Moil, as the current one is dirty and difficult to read. They replied saying they would investigate and get back to us.
Post Meeting note: We have received the follow reply - Things have changed a bit at Dualchas since the interpretation plaques were originally installed and unfortunately there are not sufficient resources or suitable staff available to take on a replacement project at present. I am aware that Dualchas had a more general heritage remit in the past and that a number of interpretation panels were erected at historic sites throughout the island. These have inevitably deteriorated over time and it is regrettable that we are not in a position to consider a consistent programme of renewal as things stand.
1.8 The Secretary wrote to the police advising them that cars have started using the village as a racetrack again especially on Friday and Saturday nights. PC Harper contacted the Secretary and said they were giving priority to Kyleakin on their Friday and Saturday evening patrols.
1.9 Following a request from a villager we wrote to the Highland Council asking them to adopt all the roads in the village that have a 20 mph speed restriction sign. We are awaiting a reply.
2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We have received a letter from Kyleakin Indoor Bowling Club thanking us for our sponsorship of the four local bowlers who represented Scotland in the World Championships in Belgium. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 Jan Laing has informed us that BT has advised the Highland Council that they are proposing to remove the telephone box at the pier. The Community Council would be opposed to this as it is regularly used by visiting yachtsmen and backpackers. Jan, who has been asked to send in any comments by June 25th, has offered to attend a meeting to discuss the matter and the Secretary was asked to invite to the meeting on June 9th.
