1. Matters Arising From Meeting of 11th September 2006

1.1

The Secretary was asked to write to Harold Yates regarding a “Welcome to Skye” sign incorporated in the roundabout at the top of the village. He replied saying he had contacted both the Scottish Executive and BEAR 10 months ago on the subject but to no avail. He would contact TranServ to see if they are more amenable.

1.2

We are disappointed about the lack of progress resulting from discussions between Messrs Sikorsky & Taylor and Harold Yates and George Speed during their walk round the village. The only thing that has happened is the top soiling of the embankment above the rock armour, there has been no action on permanently rectifying the potholes or the pavements down by the pier. The Secretary was asked to write to Harold Yates expressing our concern.

1.3

The Secretary had written again to the Lighting engineer asking for lighting to be installed around the outside perimeter of the gravel area, but had received no reply.

1.4

Jim Ronald arranged for an enforcement notice to be put on Donny MacRae’s trailer, which he promptly removed and then moved the trailer to the slip way. Jim Ronald contacted the Secretary asking if the trailer was still there. On being told that it was he said he would write to Mr MacRae informing him that if he didn’t move it the Highland Council would dispose of it and he would be charged the cost of removal. We are still waiting for the notices to be erected.

1.5

It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, ongoing.

1.6

The Secretary wrote to TranServ and informed them that water accumulates in the dip in the path at the start of the Skye Bridge, they replied saying that the matter is currently being investigated by their engineers.

1.7

The Secretary wrote to Sir Iain Noble, the land owner, with copies to Councillors Richard Durham and Mike Foxley regarding the Fish Farm debris on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste. The only reply he has received is from Sir Iain Noble who said he would investigate it. However at a meeting at the Kintail Lodge Hotel (see item 2.1) Marine Harvest promised they would dispose of the old fish nets.

1.8

Bill Fulton agreed to speak with Tony Usher regarding the “Vanguard”.

1.9

The owner of the old ferry boat “Heather” has been in contact with us and said he hoped to repaint her within the next three months.

2. Correspondence

    2.1

The Highland Council have sent us a copy of a planning application they received from Marine Harvest to increase the capacity of their Fin-Fish Farm at Sron an Tairbh, Loch Alsh by approximately 40%. One of our members had also attended an environmental presentation given by the company at the Kintail Lodge Hotel in early September. After a discussion we could find no reason to object to this application.

3. A.O.C.B.

3.1

The Secretary recently had a phone call from the Day Centre saying that water was coming in through the roof of the Old School and had blown one of the electrical trip switches. Investigation in conjunction with Billy Reid showed that some slates had blown off during the previous week’s gale, and Calum MacAskill was given an order to replace them. After a discussion the Secretary was asked to write and invite David MacLeod to give us a quotation for fibre glassing the flat roof, which was still leaking despite several attempts to repair it.

3.2

Several of the mooring rings on pier have come loose and boat owners have once again started tying up to the railings. The Secretary was asked to write to Tony Usher asking for them to be refitted.

3.3

The Secretary was asked to write to the Northern Constabulary and ask if the remains of the car at the end of the pier (stripped out by Donny MacRae) can be moved.

Next Meeting: Monday 13th November 2006 at 19.30.
