Clean up of Harbour Area
The clean up of the harbour area will take place at the next low tide.

Kinloch Hills - Wilderness Forest
We have advised the Community Forest Project that Mike Taylor would represent Kyleakin Community Council with Nuala McKay as the reserve.
1.5
Grass Cutting
We have received a reply from Bill Ross with regard to the area around the village but nothing from John Farquhar Munro or BEAR Scotland about the A87, however it was noted that the verges on the A87 had been trimmed. Bill Fulton said discussions were taking place within the Highland Council concerning co-operation between different departments this would enable the Council to supply a better service.
1.6
Sewage Disposal
A meeting was held by Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and the North of Scotland Water Authority which was attended by Ian Sikorski. It was stated that the outflow of sewage into the harbour should cease between 2004 and 2006.
2. Correspondence
2.1 |
We have received a letter from Kyleakin Football Club thanking us for the donation towards the cost of a new set of moveable goals. |
2.2 |
Ian Sikorski had been in contact with W Ross regarding the crossroads in the vicinity of the Church and the Kings Arms Hotel. He confirmed that the road that runs perpendicular to the A850 and along the West side of the Church is the right of way. He has issued a Works Order to have the existing road markings highlighted however due to budget restraints is not in a position to give a timescale for the work. |
2.3 |
We have received a copy of a letter send by D K Cotton (Head of Network Management at the Highland Council) to Councillor W Fulton concerning the provision of the 50-journey bus tickets. He suggests that these are being abused in that they apparently being used for far more than 50 journeys. The Highland Council has proposed scrapping the 50-journey bus tickets and setting the single fare at 15p. The Community Council agreed to write to Mr Cotton saying that they were disappointed that the 50-journey tickets were being withdrawn also if the system was being abused it was surely a problem with the driver not the travelling public and this would continue whatever the level of fare was set. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1
John MacDonald and Bill Fulton gave the Community Council a presentation on the Highland Council's future plans for the old CALMAC offices and public toilets on the pier. They were looking for a firm who would undertake the redevelopment of the property as a commercial enterprise with toilets open to the public on the ground floor and housing on the upper floor. Invitations to tender would be put out in November.
3.2
The question was raised about charging for yachts over wintering on the harbour. Bill Fulton said that in a similar situation elsewhere 50% of the revenue went to the Community Council and 50% to the Highland Council. The Council was advised to discuss the situation with John MacRae.
3.3
The Secretary was asked to write a letter of thanks to Lafarge Quarry, Kyleakin for donating the gravel for the new path on the pier.
3.4
The Secretary was asked to write a letter to Robin Graham saying that we were glad to see efforts were being made to remove the derelict cars behind the "Crofters".
3.5
Billy Reid informed the meeting that the new bollards on the pier had been damaged by children riding bicycles up them. He had spoken to the police and asked them to keep an eye on the situation.
Next Meeting: Monday 5th November 2001 at 19.30.
