Minutes of Meeting in Kyleakin Day Centre

On Monday 12th September 2005

Members Present: Craig Glenwright, Ian Sikorski, John Robertson, Caroline Clouston, Shirley Taylor and Mike Taylor.

Apologies: Councillor Bill Fulton

Minutes of meeting on 11th July 2005: Proposed by Mr Sikorski, seconded by Mr Robertson, and carried.

1. Matters Arising From Previous Meetings

1.1 Scottish Water has advised us that site works on the pier section will commence on 26th September with completion in early December.

1.2 The lamp posts down by the pier have now been painted.

1.3 Bill Fulton said he was still hopeful that the Scottish Executive would agree to his plans for the roundabout at the top of the village; a start had been made by clearing the area.

1.4 The noise level of Lorries parked on the old ferry slipway was a lot less now.

1.5 Richard Blain has acknowledged our letter to John Macdonald regarding a coastal protection project using funding from the Aggregates Levy. Bill Fulton has agreed to set up a meeting with TEC Services.

2. Correspondence

2.1 We have received a planning application for a proposed Mussel Farm at two sites in Loch na Beiste. After a discussion it was agreed to give our support to the proposal.

2.2 We have received notification of a proposed 20 mph speed limit on various roads around Kyleakin School.

2.3 We have received a letter of introduction from the new Area Roads & Community Works Manager, Mr Harold Yates.

2.4 We were notified by ScotRail that the first service between Kyle and Inverness will operate one hour earlier very week day, i.e. 06.23 a.m. The Secretary contacted David Summers who replied saying he would modify the Skye Bridge contract to include a connection with the 06.23 train.

3. A.O.C.B.

3.1 We have received several complaints regarding the new time table of the Bridge bus, especially with City Link buses. It was also reported that visitors staying in Kyleakin are reluctant to travel to Kyle in the evenings for a meal as they are uncertain whether they will be able to get back. The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and suggest that a time table is issued that has only Kyle-Kyleakin journeys on it and also try and enlist the support of Kyle Community Council.

3.2 The state of the road between Kyleakin and Broadford was commented on and the Secretary was asked to write to BEAR and ask for some maintenance work to be carried out.

3.3 The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and ask for the tarmac to be repaired around the drain in front of the bus stop near the Kings Arms.

3.4 It was noted that Donnie Macrae was working on yet another car on the gravel area by the pier and that there was a pool of oil under the vehicle. The Secretary was asked to write to the Highland Council and suggest that a sign saying "No Overnight Parking" be put on this area.

3.5 We agreed to try and recruit some new members onto the committee both by word of mouth and by advertising.

Next Meeting: Monday 10th October 2005 at 19.30.
