1. Matters Arising From Meeting of 10th July 2006
1.1 There has been no progress on having a “Welcome to Skye” sign incorporated in the roundabout at the top of the village. The Secretary was asked to write to Harold Yates and see if he could help.
1.2 Messrs Sikorsky & Taylor met up with Harold Yates and George Speed and had a walk round the village. We discussed potholes, rectifying the pavements down by the pier and top soiling the embankment above the rock armour. It was thought to be a productive meeting.
1.3 Mr Sikorski has spoken to the Lighting engineer and was told he will be looking at the lights on the Castle Moil this week. The Secretary was asked to write again and ask for lighting to be installed around the outside perimeter of the gravel area.
1.4 Several members of the CC met up with PC Harper to discuss various problems we are having in the village. Speeding cars, dumping of old vehicles and the gang of youths who meet behind the Free Church were some of the items mentioned. The Highland Constabulary are doing the best they can, however we were not reassured that there will be any improvement as there is insufficient man power to give us the sort of cover we would like to see.
1.5 All the boats beached illegally on the gravel area were removed by the Highland Council however Donny MacRae has now put another one there. The Secretary spoke to Jim Ronald who will arrange for an enforcement notice to be put on it this week. There will be two types of notices erected in the area one saying “no overnight parking” the other reading “The parking of boats and trailers is chargeable. Please contact the Post Office for further information”.
1.6 It was suggested that we have an information board in the car park. Mr Fulton suggested we liaise with Geoff Robson or Dorothy Maxwell in the Highland Council Planning Department at Inverness. Mr Glenwright agreed to co-ordinate this, ongoing.
1.7 The Secretary wrote to TranServ and informed them that water accumulates in the dip in the path at the start of the Skye Bridge, they replied saying that the matter is currently being investigated by their engineers.
1.8 We discussed the Fish Farm debris on the shore at the top of Loch na Beiste it appears it had not been washed up but had been deliberately beached with the view to cutting it up. The Secretary was asked to write to Sir Iain Noble, the land owner, with copies to Councillors Richard Durham and Mike Foxley.
1.9 The “Village Officer Project” has been a success, in fact we had a letter from one villager saying how pleased they were, however we have now spent all the funding allocated to the project by the Highland Council. The Secretary wrote to John MacDonald asking for funding to clean up the gravel area and to Donald Kennedy cut back the overgrown vegetation on the path to the Castle Moil. Both replied saying that no additional funding was available and we agreed to use some of our reserves to keep the project going.
1.10 The Strath & Sleat Holiday Club carried out a clean of the Obbe, the Secretary was asked to write to Angus MacLennan thanking them.
1.11 Bill Fulton agreed to speak with Tony Usher regarding the “Vanguard”.
2. Correspondence
| 2.1 |
We have received a letter from the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland confirming that as from May 2007 Skye will be split from Lochalsh and will become one of 22 wards in the Highland Council. The ward, named Eilean a’ Cheo, will have 4 elected members. |
3. A.O.C.B.
3.1 The old ferry boat “Heather” is beginning to deteriorate and has become an eyesore the Secretary was asked to write to Tony Usher requesting she be moved.
Next Meeting: Monday 9th October 2006 at 19.30.
